What can CBD do for my skin?

Carolina’s Best Skin Care Collection offers an array of products designed to cleanse, stabilize, and nourish with natural, plant derived ingredients. Pick up any one of our lotions, cleansers, or rubs and you’ll see they’re comprised of, well, mostly things you could eat! Avocado, Olive, and Grapeseed Oils. Raw Honey and Beeswax (we said could eat, not should). We’ve found nothing to aid in our skin’s overall health and beauty quite like the offerings from Mother Nature herself.

But why incorporate CBD?

While we still have a lot to learn about the hemp plants potential contributions to wellness, we’re finding more and more evidence that suggests its derivatives can be powerful components. We believe hemp's wealth of nutrients can act as a superfood for the skin.

In each of our Skin Care or Health & Wellness products, you will find one, if not both of our favored hemp derived ingredients; Hempseed Oil and Full Spectrum Hemp Flower Extract (CBD Oil)

Hempseed Oil has been used topically for years and is reputed to provide anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Hempseed Oil offers a wealth of fatty acids that absorb easily into the skin…

Alpha-Linolenic Acid, an Omega 3, is known for its ability to reduce inflammation, soothe, and improve flexibility.

Linoleic Acid, an Omega 6, is known to facilitate healing, reduce inflammation, soothe acne, and prevent future breakouts.

Oleic Acids are known to demonstrate similar properties as antioxidants, prevent inflammation, promote soft skin, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Stearic Acid is known for its ability to clean dirt, sweat and excess sebum, moisturize, and soften the skin.

Gamma-Linolenic Acid, another Omega 6, known to nourish skin, improve elasticity, and soothe irritation.

Full Spectrum Hemp Flower Extract (CBD Oil) actually contains a lot more than just CBD. It’s one of the rawest extracts from the plants luscious flowers, processed minimally to keep its original compounds intact. A Full Spectrum Extract includes over 100 cannabinoids in addition to Cannabidiol (aka CBD). CBG, CBN, CBC, Flavonoids, Terpenes, just to name a few, make up this nourishing oil. Aside from boasting anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, CBD exhibits potent antioxidant effects that can neutralize free radicals which contribute to the aging process. Studies have also shown that the cannabinoids CBN and CBG may offer pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbial properties. The terpene Humulene (alpha-caryophyllene) has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects as well. All this and it offers even more of the essential fatty acids known to promote healthy, radiant skin!

It is worth reiterating that a lot more work is needed to determine exactly how much and why these compounds seem to aid us in our skin care mission, but the scientific rigor ahead will hopefully clarify properties of specific compounds and lead us to new breakthroughs. As we learn more about the cannabinoids interaction with the network of neurons in our body called the endocannabinoid system, we will be able to develop new products tailored even more specifically to our skin care concerns and desires.
